Well, howdy, partner! Did you ever think you'd drive a Ford in 1899 in the Wild Wild West instead of riding a horse or carriage? If you read that in Arthur Morgan's voice, then you're a true RDR fan. But tomfoolery aside, you can now drive an actual car in Red Dead Redemption 2, thanks to modders. The only question is, what took them so long to finally do this?
Aside from horseback riding, stagecoaches, trains, the trolleys from St. Denis, a hot air balloon, canoe, rowboat, steamboat, railroad handcar, and one particular remote-controlled small boat, there weren't any cars in 1899 in the fictional United States from Red Dead Redemption 2. At least not in the shape we view them today.

One modder known around these here parts as WesternGamer1 dared to dream big and brought the automobile to Dutch and his entire gang of outlaws. The 1929 Ford Model A, to be precise.

It all started when the modder had to make a prop for a video. Then, the source code for car mods on RedM (multiplayer modification framework) was made public, so bada-bing, bada-boom, the Read Dead Redemption 2 Single-Player Story mode now has a fully drivable 1929 Ford Model A.

The Ford features working engine audio, complete with startup revving and braking sfx (sound effects). The best-looking features are the headlights that work splendidly, especially with the lighting engine from Red Dead Redemption 2. It only makes us wonder what the lighting system in Grand Theft Auto VI will be like when it's properly integrated from scratch, not just a mod.

The wheels twist and turn, as you would expect, and it even comes with a horn. The NPCs (non-playable characters) obviously won't react because it's not in their code to recognize a car, but it's still a unique experience. You can choose from four body colors with a black top: green, blue, red, and what appears to be a dark gray color scheme.

The gameplay mechanics weren't tweaked to aid you during the main story. However, you can use it as a means of transportation in some instances where shooting from a horse isn't required.

While it might sound bizarre, the modder wasn't that far off from actual facts regarding vehicles from that era. Granted, we're not talking about the Ford Model A from 1929, but it is close enough to the threshold that mechanized personal means of transportation.

The Duryea Motor Wagon was unveiled on September 21, 1893, in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was equipped with a one-cylinder engine that produced 4 horsepower.

The ones who paved the way for the "Horseless Age" were Charles and Frank Duryea, two brothers who founded the Duryea Motor Wagon Company. They had ads and everything back then. One said, "Duryea Motor Wagon Company, Springfield, Mass. Manufacturers of Motor Wagons, Motors, and Automobile Vehicles of all kinds."

The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is vastly superior to the old console builds. While Rockstar Games is busy with Grand Theft Auto VI, players are eagerly waiting for a 60 fps update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
