Do you miss those Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2 drag races? Yeah, me too. Luckily, Rockstar Games made a substitute in Grand Theft Auto Online that just might win you over. Granted, it's nostalgia-free, but at the same time, maybe this paves the way for a fleshed-out drag racing mode in GTA VI, whether in single-player mode or in a future online iteration.
Last week in GTA Online, we got tow trucks, so you could take your premium car-stealing towing service to the next level, just like in "Gone in 60 Seconds."

This week, Rockstar Games thought it should introduce double rewards and new drag race events. Also, there are extra bonuses for Auto Shop Robbery Contracts, Rhino Hunt, New Salvage Yard Robbery Targets, and more. Keep in mind that they'll only be in effect until January 31.

The fun part about these new drag races is that they're taking place in town, mid-traffic. It's not curated, so your driving skill will make the difference between a payout and a restart. And yes, of course, nitrous is part of the sensation, so you can live a quarter mile at a time.

To kick things off, buy a Membership from Mimi at the LS Car Meet. Luckily, this week, it's at 50% off. Then, just launch Drag Races by going to the blip. You can also use your iFruit phone and visit Quick Join > Series Modes > Drag Race Series.

You can score a quick $100k if you complete the Weekly Challenge by winning two drag or drift races. There's a Bright Manor Racing Suit waiting for you as well.

To get some more cash, pay a visit to your Salvage Yard and find out how to steal a Bravado Buffalo EVX, Lampadati Viseris, and Pegassi Toros. They're equivalents to real-life models like the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT, De Tomaso Pantera GT5, and Lamborghini Urus.

More rewards await players if they moonlight as robbers at the Auto Shop and go Rhino (tank) hunting. Twice the GTA$ and RP will be bestowed onto all those who successfully clear the Robbery Contracts. A 30% discount at Auto Shop properties is available, including all Upgrades and Modifications.

The same benefits apply if you participate in Rhino Hunt, where a team driving off-road cars armed with Sticky Bombs goes up against the Rhino Tank.

Don't forget to visit the Premium Deluxe Motorsport Showroom for discounts and new rides. Keep an eye out for Canis Kalahari (Off-Road), Karin Futo (Sports), Imponte Ruiner (Muscle), Dinka Jester (Racecar), and the Pegassi Torero (Sports Classic, 30% off).

It's always commendable to see Rockstar Games deliver fresh content. One can only dream of what Grand Theft Auto VI Online will be like with the 12-year gap in technology and ambition compared to GTA V.
