Real-Life Iron Man Mansion Boasts the Most Incredible Auto Gallery

The closest thing to a real-life Tony Stark is, if we believe comedian John Oliver, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, a comparison Musk has already refuted on his favorite social media platform. The closest thing to the incredible, quite bonkers Iron Man house from the movies of the same name is Pengilly House. And that's not up for debate.

Pengilly House is so very much like the cliffside mansion shown in the Iron Man movies that it's now officially going as Iron Man House, arguably the most famous house in South Africa's Cape Town. Situated in the nearby enclave of Clifton and valued at over $20 million, Iron Man House is now offered for short-term rent, which means we're getting a better, more thorough look at it.

For auto enthusiasts, it's a great way to live vicariously because Iron Man House is also a car collector's dream thanks to its 12-car garage that's also an auto gallery and an architectural work of art. After all, not everyone can afford to spend upwards of $20,000 per night to rent a place like this, let alone buy the 12 beauties that would find a home inside this very unique garage.

Designed by architect Peerutin Karol and completed in 2015 after five long years, the Iron Man House is a tribute to Los Angeles' mid-century modernist architecture, in particular the works of John Lautner. Lautner created concrete, glass, and steel constructions that, despite their harsh utilitarian design, invited the natural world in, and that's also the main feature of Iron Man House. Well, that and total and undeniable luxury.

Iron Man House is a concrete, four-level home that sprawls over three lots at the base of the 12 Apostles mountain range, with direct views of the Atlantic Ocean. It boasts six bedrooms, two of which are the main bedrooms (junior and primary); 10 bathrooms in total, six of which are ensuites; three pools, one of them an indoor pool; interior gardens; a home theater; three kitchens; its own sizable backyard with the same uninterrupted views of the ocean; and last but not least, that enviable garage.

Real estate influencer Enes Yilmazer was recently invited to tour the Iron Man House, and if you have some 37 minutes to spare, the video below is the result of that tour. If you're only interested in the garage, the video is time-stamped to that bit.

Situated on the ground floor, where the main entry is, the garage is accessible by means of a gated, cobblestone driveway. It offers parking for 12 of the owner's most prized cars, with more parking space available outside. There's a turntable for convenience purposes and several skylights that bring in natural light into what would otherwise feel like a cavernous space.

The highlight of the garage, though, is the enclosed glass bridge that runs from one side to the other on what would be the garage's second floor. The garage is double-height, in other words.

The bridge connects the two wings on the second floor of the house and effectively turns the garage into an auto gallery, where the owner can display (or show off) his collectibles. The floor and enclosing walls are all glass, but the roof of this bridge is mirrored, so it's guaranteed to make an impression even without the bird's eye view of the motors underneath.

Described as Iron Man meets a James Bond villain, the Iron Man House also offers the most incredible lounge. The Great Room, by its official name, is the reason why Pengilly House became the Iron Man House: a vast space wrapped around in angled glass walls, with a cantilevered concrete roof and exposed concrete columns, offering 270-degree views of the ocean and the surrounding mountains.

Words can only go so far to describe the incredible location and equally incredible views that this home offers. But let's just say that the only thing better than the views are the amenities – and they seemingly turned this mansion into a rival to five-star luxury resorts.

You get an infinity-edge pool with a sunken entertainment area that has everything from a custom bar to a grill and disco lights; you get a fully equipped gym, two elevators, and a three-bedroom guest area that can be completely self-sufficient from the rest of the mansion; you get a spectacular main kitchen next to the Great Room and an even more spectacular chef's kitchen hidden behind it, for those times when you might want to hold larger dinner parties; you get a proper spa area with sauna and steam shower; and you get super fancy custom furniture and finishes ranging from open-space bathrooms (*not for the prude) to natural stone walls and copper drawers.

You don't get Jasper like Iron Man did, it's true. But that incredible garage with its glass walkway must make up for it. Even if only in daydreams.
