As more of a casual fan of Japanese sports cars, I wonder whether the Toyota Supra, in its current iteration, is either underrated, overrated, or properly rated. Let's just say that in terms of being a cultural icon, the fifth-generation Supra has some gigantic shoes to fill.
Whenever most of us hear “Supra”, we immediately think back to the fourth gen A80 variant, designed by Isao Tsuzuki back in 1990. This car had a cult following even before you could drive it in Need for Speed, and way before Brian O’Conner smoked a Ferrari in his custom Supra convertible back in the first Fast and Furious movie.

As far as this latest model is concerned, truth be told, it’s unlikely to ever hit any major highs, but that doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t make for an exciting ownership experience, or that it can’t make for an impressive collectible if the specification is right.

Now, we just found this brand-spanking new 2023 GR Supra with 5,000 miles on the clock, getting auctioned off to the highest bidder. The best part is that it’s one of just 500 examples dubbed the A91-MT Edition, which boosts its appeal factor tenfold.

The exterior is finished in CU Later Gray (awesome name), which works amazingly together with the Frozen Gunmetal Gray forged 19” alloy wheels, wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. We should also note that this Supra comes with HKS coilovers and custom wheel spacers, to go with the carbon fiber bodywork (front splitter, side skirts, rear spats, rear spoiler).

From a visual standpoint, this is one of the best-looking GR Supra models currently out there, and as fun as it would be to drive it, I would not blame its future owner for simply wanting to showcase it somewhere.

Moving on to the interior, you’ve got your heated and power-adjustable sport seats with the Hazelnut leather upholstery (also found on the steering wheel, center console and driver side door panel), you’ve got dual-zone automatic climate control, a pre-collision system, lane departure warning, carbon fiber trim, wireless charging, a 12-speaker JBL HiFi sound system, plus an 8-inch infotainment system with sat-nav and wireless Apple CarPlay.

In terms of what’s going on under the hood, the turbocharged 3.0-liter DOHC inline-six was modified to feature an HKS cat-back exhaust system with an Evolution Racewerks downpipe and a catalytic converter delete. Meanwhile, the A91-MT Edition package is responsible for adding the GR-branded strut tower brace found in the engine bay.

Keep in mind that because this Supra features a non-compliant exhaust system, it cannot be sold to someone who’s planning on driving it in Tesla-land, aka the state of California.

Anyway, this engine is good for 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, with everything going to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. While these may not look like massive numbers, rest assured this is a quick car by any metrics.
