Sometimes, visiting old acquaintances is nice – especially when they have something new and cool tucked in the garage. Even more so if that great ride is a crimson C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stringray Z51, right?
It has been a while since we last checked on the brawls staged by the videographer behind the SSDracer channel on YouTube. His venue is mainly dedicated to stories about weekend racing at the local race track, where he alternatively takes the home's 'track' cars – a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP fitted with the 3.8-liter supercharged V6 and hooked to a four-speed auto.

That's the oldest, followed by a 2018 Chevy Camaro 1SS with the 6.2-liter V8 and eight-speed gearbox, plus a 2020 Honda Accord Sport daily driver rocking the 2.0-liter turbo mill and a ten-speed auto. But wait, during the time of our absence, his garage welcomed a fourth member into the family – a 2023 Chevy Corvette Stingray Z51 dressed in Torch Red, of course.

Now, after he chronicled the dealership delivery experience, some of its features, and stuff like the performance exhaust or cold start, he is onto the old shenanigans – namely some feisty 1/8-mile dragstrip action at the Barona Dragstrip in Lakeside, California. That's what you call treating your brand-new Z51 without gloves, right?

Anyway, during this initial skirmish, the brand-new C8 Chevy Corvette Stingray Z51 had some feisty competition in the other lane – namely, a gray Toyota GR Supra that looked like it came straight out of the Fast & Furious movie franchise or the Need for Speed game series. The tuned JDM-style sports car (remember, it's actually a BMW underneath, and both the Z4 and GR Supra are produced in Austria by Magna Steyr!) looked like a very serious rival for the well-known and surprisingly great C8 'drag racing car.'

Well, as it turns out, surprisingly (or not), that tuned Toyota GR Supra was all looks and no-go. Instead, the experienced Corvette driver managed to take the lead from early on into the race and never relinquished, hence the excellent reaction time and overall 7.97s versus 8.32s victory! Anyway, suppose you want something else from the JDM-style versus the American superstar department. In that case, we also recommend looking at "this clash of the V8s that is incredibly close" between an older 'Stang and the Lexus IS 500.

That one was staged by the good folks over at 'The Fast Lane Car' channel on YouTube, who don't have the luxury of a full-course dragstrip but rather usually improvise on closed roads to give us drag races of the unprepped variety. So, do you want to know who is faster – America's racers or the rest of the world?
