Range Rover Ji Guang Launched in China

Range Rover continues its global introduction of the Evoque, so the company debuted the new five-door crossover at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. Furthermore, Range Rover has also revealed that the Chinese version of the car will be called "Ji Guan" which, according to China Car Times, represents a striking and bright appearance.

Chinese sales will begin in 2011, just like in the rest of the markets, with pricing and other details to be revealed at a later date. The British counterpart will be offered in three- and five-door body styles, with price tags between GBP 30,000 and GBP 45,000.

The SUV will offer a 4WD and a 2WD drive-train, together with three trim levels: Pure, Prestige and Dynamic. A 2.0-liter Si4 engine with 240 hp thanks to direct fuel injection and twin valve timing, will find its way under both models’ hood. Also available will be a pair of 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engines, developing either 190 or 150 hp.

Although expected to become one of the ranges to feature a hybrid powertrain as well, the Range Rover Evoque won't be offered with such a configuration, mostly because Range Rover believes that electric components would add too much wait to the vehicle.

“Our approach to Evoque is more viable for the company and customers because hybrid technology on a relatively small car would load the price and add weight. That technology is better suited to larger cars, probably from Discovery upwards. Our engineers have done a great job reducing weight on Evoque,” Land Rover’s global brand director John Edwards said earlier this month.
