Now that Chevrolet has revealed the new Colorado midsize pickup truck, we can’t help but wonder whether or not Ford and Ram will rejoin the segment with new Ranger and Dakota trucks or new nameplates altogether.
While Ford hinted at a Ranger successor earlier this year, Chrysler has something different on its mind. Instead of developing a smaller pickup, Ram will be relying on the brand new 1500 EcoDiesel to lure midsize truck buyers into the fullsize market.
According to Ram Truck boss Reid Bigland, “the customer who is concerned about fuel economy can now move up” with the 1500 EcoDiesel, a truck that’s expected to return 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg in the highway. “These customers want a number of things, and they really want great fuel economy. They want a relevant pickup... and in the case of EcoDiesel, we can deliver that fuel economy with, really, no compromise,” he told Autoblog.
Earlier this week, Chevrolet took the wraps of the 2015 Colorado, a midsize truck that will tackle the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier in the United States. The new vehicle will go on sale sometime next year.
