Chevrolet has taken the wraps off the 2015 Colorado, as the brand new pickup truck was displayed at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show today. Described as a “midsize truck the DNA of Chevy’s full-size trucks”, the 2015 Colorado pledges to redefine the segment that’s now dominated by the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier.
Although it was speculated the 2015 Colorado will arrive with a diesel engine sourced from the GM’s global Colorado truck, the new US market vehicle will actually be launched with two gasoline engines, with an oil burner to join the lineup in its seconds year.

Chevy says the 2015 Colorado will go on sale with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an optional 3.6-liter V6. Official figures have yet to be released, but the company says the former should deliver 193 HP and 184 lb-ft, while the latter will churn 302 HP and 270 lb-ft. A Duramax 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel borrowed from the global Colorado will be offered for the 2016 model year.

The 2015 Colorado is expected to have class-leading payload capacity and trailering capacity of more than 6,700 pounds, but detailed info will become available before the truck goes on sale in 2014.

Moving inside, the 2015 Colorado is bound to outgun its segment rivals with lots of premium features, including a sculpted headliner that enhances headroom, halo lighting on key controls for easier view and an open area at the front of the center console for easier phone charging. The Z71 model will come with exclusive color, unique trim details, embossed seatbacks and contrast stitching.

The new truck will also be equipped with GM’s latest safety and convenience features, such as eight-inch color touch screen, next-gen OnStar with MyLink, navigation, six standard airbags, forward collision alert, lane departure warning or StabiliTrak. Pricing has yet to be revealed, but we’ll be back as soon as Chevy spills the beans. More info on the 2015 Colorado is available in the press release below.
