Available on the 2014 Ford F-150 with the 3.7-liter V6 engine, the new CNG option comes as a factory-installed, gaseous-fuel prep package that includes hardened valves, valve seats, piston and rings that allow the truck to operate on either natural gas or gasoline through separate fuel systems.

Ford says the bi-fuel F-150 is capable of achieving more than 750 miles on combine tanks of gas and CNG. When in gasoline mode, the 3.7-liter V6 returns 23 miles per gallon on the highway and 19 miles per gallon combined.

The Blue Oval will charge $315 for the CNG option, but customers will need to spend another $6,000 to $9,500 to upfit the vehicle with fuel tanks, fuel lines and fuel injectors via a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier. Ford expects to sell more than 15,000 CNG-powered F-150s next year.
