Here’s one lesson this driver will not need to revisit: whenever you pull over and exit the vehicle, put your parking brake on.
A video shot in Colorado on State Highway 7, near the Rocky Mountain National Park, has attained near-viral status after it was posted online. It was captured on the dashcam of fellow motorist William Quast, Viral Hog says, who happened to be driving by just as it happened.

You will also find it at the bottom of the page. At first, it doesn’t look like there’s anything wrong with the picture: a white Chevy truck is stopped on the side of the road, right in front of a port-a-potty, while traffic in the opposite direction is advancing at a slower pace.

At one point, a man runs out from the port-a-potty and heads directly for the truck, not even minding the oncoming cars. The reason becomes immediately apparent: his Chevy is slipping backwards down the cliff.

Quast calmly explains to his female passenger that “he forgot to put the parking brake on,” so the truck simply rolled away. As you can imagine, the driver never gets to the truck in time and, even if he did, there’s little he could have done once the Chevy was in motion.

“A guy with a small white truck stops to take a break and forgets to set his parking brake and the truck rolls off the cliff. On CO 7 near Rocky Mountain National Park, USA. There were no people in the truck,” Quast says of the video, as reported by Viral Hog.

The video also includes pics of the Chevy once its progress was halted. Luckily for the careless driver, it didn’t roll too far down the cliff and stopped into a bunch of tree and rocks. Damage must have been considerable either way, but at least he still got something back that he could later work to repair.

The best part of the video, however, is when Quast pulls over his own car to ask the Chevy driver if he needs any type of assistance. “Put your parking brake on,” Quast’s female passenger calmly reminds him, as if the scene that just played out in front of them wasn’t enough of a reminder.
