The modern Dodge Charger as we know it – a four-door muscle sedan – is going the way of the dodo in favor of a return to its coupe roots with EV oomph. The Chrysler 300 is also about to retire, and the Chevrolet Malibu is General Motors' only passenger car still for sale. As for the Blue Oval Company, there's nothing with four doors and classic sedan allure left for hire.
The situation is dire for passenger cars all around the world. But it's especially atrocious in the United States if you intend to secure the four-door sedan from one of the Big Detroit Three. Otherwise, you're left with the Europeans and Asians, both in mass-market and luxury form.
However, some people do not take this kindly and will also do something to correct the situation. Albeit, with this being the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, they are not taking matters into their hands but rather at the tip of their CGI brush.
Such is the case with Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, who has switched his attention from curious minivans and the 2024 Land Cruiser to Ford's departed four-doors just recently. His first order of CGI business was to revive the beloved Lincoln Town Car nameplate with a Zephyr-esque design (based on the model that lives on in China) and what certainly looks like digital suicide doors.
Of course, people rushed to compare it with other quirky entries into the luxury sedan sector – like the Genesis G90- and also think of it as a proper heir to the Lincoln Continental series. From there, it was only a matter of time before someone asked for a Ford Crown Victoria version of this CGI revival, and the pixel master obliged by painting it black and taking yet "another swing at a modern-day Crown Victoria" with proper, muscly sedan vibes.
Secondly, the CGI expert immediately promised he would also do a take on a new Mercury Grand Marquis to wrap up the Ford Motor Company full-size Panther-based triumvirate, as the model was deeply related to the Ford LTD Crown Victoria and the Lincoln Town Car. In this hypothetical story, it too keeps the close relationship to its virtual siblings only that the Lincoln Zephyr base of CGI operations ended up being stretched at the front and rear, got the A-pillar recolored, and also fitted with a Marauder-style radiator grille.
Now, we know that all three of these proposed reinventions are merely wishful thinking and that Ford will never return to the passenger car ways unless there's a paradigm change across the current automotive industry. But all three of them go to show that the American sedan is not dead yet – at least not in the heart and soul of true four-door enthusiasts!
