Porsche has been very vocal about its ambitious goals of becoming a global leader in sustainable mobility over the last few years. After dipping its toes into the electric bicycle market, the Stuttgart-based carmaker is now moving up another gear in electromobility by developing an exclusive all-electric sports boat in collaboration with Austrian Frauscher Shipyard.
The speedboat is called Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air and is based on the Austrian boatbuilder's Frauscher 858 Fantom Air daycruiser. Designed to set new standards on the water, the new electric boat will borrow the 28.4-foot (8.67-meter) long and 8.16-foot (2.49-meter) wide hull of the already existing model practically unchanged, but it will be equipped with Porsche's state-of-the-art automotive drive technology of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which was further developed and adapted for use in the water.

We're talking about the same technology that will underpin the highly-anticipated Macan EV, as well as the Audi A6 e-tron. Actually, to highlight the connection between the next-generation Macan and the boat design, the company has also released an official sketch of the luxury compact crossover, giving us a glimpse into its design.

"With the all-electric Macan, we want to provide the sportiest model in its segment. This is our stated development goal. And we have carried over this ambition in every detail to the boat. The eFantom offers the E-Performance typical of Porsche with excellent driving properties. That the powerful electric motors of the latest generation and the state-of-the-art battery and charge management also work so well on the water is testament to the excellence of our modular Premium Platform Electric," said Jörg Kerner, Vice President of Product Line Macan.

When it comes to the Macan EV, the powertrain will deliver 603 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque in the top configuration. For the electric sports boat, Porsche's technology package comprises a lithium-ion high-voltage battery with a capacity of around 100 kWh, a permanently synchronous electric motor (PSM) of the latest generation, and related power electronics. In terms of charging, Porsche and Frauscher's boat will be able to be charged at DC fast-charging stations thanks to the 800-volt technology from Porsche, but AC charging is also possible.

The all-electric Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air will feature a nine-seat configuration, just like the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air it is based on, as well as a generous lounge area aft with two comfortable sun pads. Guests will also be able to relax on two upholstered benches in the front area. Studio F.A. Porsche design agency will work on the design of the boat's helmstand, being responsible for creating the steering wheel and the main console with throttle and integrated displays. The carmaker will also be involved in the design of the seats and upholstery, so we can expect quite luxurious features onboard.

"We stand for state-of-the-art, high-performance, and sustainable luxury - and we are redefining this concept. Our goal is to inspire our customers and make their dreams come true. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air, like our sports cars, offers exceptional performance and luxury experiences," explained Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT at Porsche AG.

Porsche and Frauscher initially plan to only release a limited edition of 25 units of the electric boat, with delivery expected to begin in 2024. These units will be crafted in the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria, and the shipyard will also handle all the sales logistics and after-sales management.

This is not the first boat inspired by a Porsche model, as some of you might remember the 356-inspired Hermes Speedster from a few years ago and the sleek-looking Porsche Fearless speedboat.
