Back in 2020, a viral Instagram post revealed the story of a trio of supercars that had been sitting for years in an abandoned Chinese dealership. Four years have passed, and the exotic vehicles are still locked in the derelict building that once was a Ferrari-Maserati dealership in the city of Guangzhou.
Shut down in 2012, shortly after President Xi Jinping passed the anti-corruption laws meant to discourage the consumption of high-end products, the dealership closed its door with three supercars inside. And according to recent footage by YouTube's "effspot," the vehicles are still there as of March 2024. That's right, they've been sitting in the same spot for 12 years now.

The supercars appear to be in pristine condition at first glance, but the thick layer of dust covering them and the flat tires are strong hints that they're not getting any kind of maintenance. That's bad news for any type of vehicle, let alone a supercars worth six-figure sums.

The Porsche Carrera GT is arguably the most iconic of the trio. One of only 1,270 units built from 2004 to 2006, this Carrera GT is a rare gem due to its Zanzibar Red Metallic paint. That's because only three were finished in this spectacular color.

But the 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica parked here is also pretty scarce. Although Ferrari built 599 units, only 43 cars had a manual gearbox like this dark gray example.

As for the Corvette, it's a yellow fifth-generation rig of the Z06 variety. It's nowhere near as rare as the 575 Superamerica, but the C5 Z06 is slowly developing into a fully-fledged classic nowadays.

It's unclear whether the Ferrari and the Chevy were imported new into China, but the Carrera GT is a better-documented supercar. The story goes it was sold in Russia and Germany before it ended up in Asia as a low-mileage vehicle with just 4,581 km (2,800 miles) on the odometer.

But what exactly is the story behind this dealership? Well, it turns out the dealership went bankrupt, and the owner ran away with the money he had taken as customer deposits. The showroom owner locked the place up and refused to release the vehicles until the debt was paid.

There's also a story floating around about Porsche China trying to rescue the Carrera GT, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Making matters worse, the cars can't be registered again as per Chinese laws. So, even though it's been more than a decade since the dealership was abandoned, the fate of these supercars remains unclear.

And it's more than just an issue involving a trio of cool sports cars that are wasting away. The ceiling looks like it will cave in, so these vehicles are no longer safe in there. Check them out in the video below. The dealership footage starts at the 8:30-minute mark.
