1969 witnessed several big changes for the Chevelle SS, including the return to the main Chevelle series. Chevrolet had a brilliant idea in 1966 when it decided to turn the SS 396 into a stand-alone series, but the plan didn't work in the long term.
Three years later, the SS 396 re-became a Chevelle package.

A 1969 Chevelle SS 396 landed on eBay not long ago with a strong desire to get a complete overhaul but also with a promise that could make collectors check their bank accounts right here and now.

The Chevelle claims it's one-of-a-kind, albeit I couldn't verify the claims. It's a rare Chevelle, but I couldn't find any figures to confirm what eBay seller dealer259 promises. The rarity stems from the color, which appears to be a combination of Glacier Blue and Dover White. It's not the first Chevelle I see with paint code 53 and top code 50, so maybe the owner refers to the trim and color combo.

Leaving aside this mysterious tidbit, although you should inspect the claim in person, the Chevelle looks like a solid restoration candidate.

The car sells with the original build sheet, the original invoice, and other documents from the Chevrolet dealer, becoming an intriguing survivor that collectors might be interested in. The car spent its entire life with the same owner, and the seller says they owned the car until they passed away. The Chevelle remained in the family until recently, when it landed on eBay to look for a new home.

The Chevelle looks solid, but you'll still find occasional rust. However, the vehicle is far from becoming a rust bucket, so if you're concerned you'd have to invest big in metalwork, that's not necessary. The Chevelle flexes good bones, and the paint survived the test of time, though I'm sure a collector would want a full respray.

It's hard to find something bad about this Chevelle if you're realistic and acknowledge the project car condition. However, I've rarely seen an SS 396 in such a solid shape without ever getting a restoration, so I don't expect this Chevelle to remain available for long.

The bidding has already attracted several bids, with over 20 people fighting to secure the car. The top offer is $11,200, but the owner configured a reserve. It's still in place, meaning bidders must send higher offers to take the Chevelle home. The only problem is that the seller might have very high expectations regarding the selling price, as they configured a Buy It Now price of $40,000.

Meanwhile, you can see the car in person in Blacksburg, South Carolina, and it's safe to assume you'll need a trailer to take it home. The digital fight will end in six days.
