He may appear like a young rapper looking to bring fashion into the American showbiz, but you should know that Pharrell Williams is a 42-year-old record producer, designer and father. Not only does he know exactly what he’s doing, but it’s safe to say the Blurred Lines singer sure knows how to stay Happy. And if having his name on one of those F1 cars will bring him joy, that’s what he’ll do.
The days when professional racing remained the world where showbiz millionaires have not yet entered are gone. With Kim Kardashian posing next to Force India F1 driver Sergio Perez at a Formula One event last week, we knew something is going on. Regularly, we’d ignore any of them Kardashian news, but when they are racing related we just can’t but share the news.
This time around, it’s none other than the Happy singer who has somehow stepped next to the grid. Pharrell Williams passed by the Monaco Grand Prix the other week to salute the Lotus F1 team and take a couple of pictures with the driver.
We couldn’t help but wonder what a pop singer has in common with the world of professional racing. But when we took a closer look, we realized it’s because of marketing again.
According to Grand Prix 247, the deal will see the Lotus cars driven by Romain Grosjean Maldonado carry the logos of Williams’ I Am Other brand and the film Dope, of which he is the executive producer.
As you can see in the pictures here, the logos were on the vehicles’ liveries at the Monaco race already. However, other activities are also planned across multiple platforms apparently, so expect to be hearing from Pharrell in the future.
