The Ford GT is one of the rarest and most difficult to get cars in the world. With a production run of just 1,350 units, the GT is particularly challenging to own because of Ford’s intensive screening process for future owners.
Usually, before getting approved for a GT the future owner first has to register with Ford and allow some background checks to be performed. Once admitted, they will have to choose solely from the remaining variants of the car.

But one lucky - and wealthy - guy or gal just may have a way around that.

On October 5, the Petersen Automotive Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary with a grand gala. To mark the occasion, the organization announced it would auction one of the remaining Ford GT allocations.

The winner will get to have their GT made in any available specification or trim package, including the already sold out Heritage Edition or Carbon Series. What’s more, the winner can choose between the 2020, 2021 or 2022 model years of the GT.

“As our biggest fundraiser of the year, the evening promises to be an exciting night for all,” said in a statement Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges.

“We’re grateful for Ford’s contribution to this year’s gala. The winning bidder will enjoy this extremely rare opportunity as well as make a significant impact on our community.”

Petersen did not say how much it expects to get for the right to own a GT, but did say all the proceeds will go to the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation, a non-profit that provides STEAM-based education and programs to children and teens.

A word of advice, though. If you plan to make a bid for the slot, make sure you meet Ford’s criteria. Petersen warns the winner must meet eligibility requirements. You can find more info on what that means at this link.

What’s more, an obligation not to transfer the allocation also applies.
