A tattoo, the most personal, currently accessible and occasionally regrettable form of permanent expression. For car enthusiasts, it only makes sense to get some type of body art that includes their preferred brand or model.
Still, the findings of this non-exhaustive and totally random survey could come as a surprise: it seems that the preferred brand for people who get car tattoos is Volkswagen. The study / survey comes from Compare The Market, a car shopping website, while methodology basically implied trawling Instagram under the #tattoo hashtag.

The findings are reported as accurate as of August 13. While they are inconclusive and too vague to generalize in any form, they do offer a look into the type of car-related body art people from all over the world are getting. For instance, over 5,500 people got a Volkswagen tattoo somewhere on their body – actual model cars, not the name of the brand.

The second on the list of preferences is Jeep, followed by Cadillac, Pontiac and Chevrolet. The difference between the leading position and the runner-up is not negligible in the least: 3,374 posts including a photo of a tattoo. At the bottom of preferences came Bentley, Toyota and Lamborghini.

In terms of specific models, the survey reveals people have somewhat of a soft spot for the Chevrolet Impala (with 823 posts), the DMC DeLorean (800 posts) and the Chevrolet Corvette (with just 180 posts), all three iconic models.

While Volkswagen is a popular brand for tattoos, it’s also a name that can turn tongue-twister for many Americans, as another study from late 2019 revealed. It was the top most misspelled car brand, with some 54 percent of Americans getting it wrong. The most common misspelled variant is “Volkswagon,” followed by “Volckswagen” and “Volxwagon.”

And this here concludes today’s dose of car trivia, which happens to be VW-related.
