The economic boom the world has been experiencing over the past few years has made car prices go up like never before. You have to look really hard these days for a vehicle that is both affordable and has all the features you’re looking for. And apparently that's exactly what car buyers are doing: looking very hard at the price tag.
According to a survey conducted by Truecar, most of the people in the market for a new vehicle consider price to be the most important factor when making the choice. 94.6 percent of the 994 people surveyed said this is more important than anything else.

Despite being the most important factor, price is however not the only element shaping the buyers’ choice in the end: up next is fuel efficiency, important for 91.1 percent of the people questioned. In third place come safety features (90 percent), more important than say maintenance costs or the reputation of the carmaker.

Safety is extremely important for those who at one point were involved in a car crash. This group of people tends to place a car’s warranty just next to say safety equipment. They are also very concerned about special features, vehicle depreciation (overall, the factor car buyers are concerned with the least), and engine power.

On the other hand, people who have not been in a crash with their current car also look into the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

In a time when most of the cars available are filled with gadgets, 72.4 percent of customers consider tech extras a plus in making their decision, especially those somehow linked to safety. For most (70.6 percent) the most important such gadget is the rearview camera, followed by blind spot detection (57.7 percent), and backup sensors (51.9 percent).

You can have a look at the results of the entire survey at this link.
