Outlander Sport Hikes Mitsubishi US November Sales

Mitsubishi Motors North America announced today November sales were 4,306, an increase of 47 percent compared to the same month last year, representing Mitsubishi's biggest year-on-year increase for a single month in more than ten years. November is the first full month of sales for the new Outlander Sport compact SUV, which helped boost the automaker's business.

"The excitement of our sales team and dealer partners for the new Outlander Sport was contagious, because customers responded in a big way," said MMNA President & CEO Shin Kurihara "And the showroom traffic translated into increases for Outlander and some of our other vehicles, as well."

Sales of the Outlander SUV were up 64 percent year-on-year and 23 percent for the year-to-date. Endeavor sales increased 329 percent and more than 34 percent for the year. Galant sales were up almost 4 percent compared to last November, and are up 6.6 percent year-to-date. Sales of the Lancer Evolution were up 46 percent for the month. Mitsubishi sales have increased 2.4 percent for the year-to-date.

The Outlander Sport's launch was supported by a ground-breaking marketing program, Mitsubishi Live Drive, the World's First Online Test Drive of an actual vehicle using interactive remote control. About 52,000 consumers participated in the program that took place November 1 to 10, 2010, by registering at outlandersport.com.

Mitsubishi's marketing division worked hard to devise a truly innovative marketing campaign, employing cutting edge technologies to recreate a genuine Mitsubishi-experience. The "Live Drive" event was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records, achieving a new world record for the furthest distance driven by an online controlled vehicle in 24 hours – 91 miles.
