Unless you have a thing for European quirky crossovers, you probably don't know anything about the Opel Grandland. But this model will soon be replaced by an entirely new generation, which will feature some very familiar underpinnings.
We are talking about the STLA Medium platform, which is already the foundation stone of the latest Peugeot 3008 (and e-3008) and will be used by the upcoming Jeep Compass, too. It is a versatile architecture that supports electrified and fully electric powertrains, and the new Opel (Vauxhall in the UK) Grandland will likely get both options.

If it shares the EV power with the latest Peugeot e-3008, then it will launch with a single motor driving the front wheels and generating 207 hp (210 ps/254 kW) in the base version, aided by a 73 kWh battery. This model has a 326-mile (525 km) range, and the superior Long Range, with its 98 kWh battery and 227 hp (230 ps/169 kW), improves it to 435 miles (700 km). Last but not least, the dual-motor setup enjoys 315 hp (320 ps/235 kW) and has an identical autonomy to the base one.

We'd bet on the next Grandland getting several ICE options, too, and it could pack a 1.2L with 48V tech. How do we know that? Because the Peugeot 3008 will also get this unit, with 134 hp (136 ps/100 kW) and a six-speed DCT that drives the front wheels. This could be where the Stellantis-owned brand might draw the line, yet if we were to bet on it, we'd also say that it could also pack a plug-in hybrid assembly. After all, it would bridge the gap between the mild-hybrid and pure EV options.

Visually, the 2025 Opel Grandland will get a new interpretation of the vizor face, flush-mounted door handles, muscular wheel arches, and cleaner-looking front bumper and tailgate. The latest scooped prototype doesn't reveal anything that we haven't already seen, as we dedicated an entire story to a tester a couple of months ago. Well, there is a but here, and it revolves around the wheels, with the two scooped prototypes riding on different alloys compared to the one from last fall.

Since Opel plans to go electric by 2028, the ICE-powered Grandland should have a lifespan of three to four years. Further down the road, the EV models will survive, and chances are by then, they will receive a mid-cycle refresh. For now, the new one is expected to premiere in a few weeks/months.

The outgoing Grandland has been around since 2017. It utilizes the PSA EMP2 platform, comes with gasoline, diesel, and PHEV power, and serves as the successor to the Chevrolet Captiva-rebadged Antara, which, in turn, replaced the Frontera.
