Opel Meriva Upgraded with Three New Diesel Engines

This is the second upgrade of the week for the new Opel Meriva, but this time, it concerns a bit more interested consumers who might actually buy this car. After rolling out the first 3D auto commercial in the industry, Opel today announced three new diesel engines for the revised Meriva range, raising the overall number of available units to eight.

The new 1.3-liter CDTI ecoFLEX engine develops 95 horsepower and employs a variable geometry turbocharger for increased power with less fuel. Fuel consumption could even drop to 4.5 l/100km (52.2 mpg) if we're going to trust the official figures posted by Opel.

In addition, a 1.7-liter CDTI engines, with two power configurations, will also be included in the range, with the first producing 110 horsepower and the second outputting 130 horsepower. The latter replaces the old 125 horsepower configuration offered on the previous generation, with torque level raised to 300 Nm from 280 Nm. Fuel consumption drops to 5.2 l/100km (45.2 mpg), according to the official estimates.

In addition to all these improvements, Opel Meriva will receive a Start/Stop system in 2011, similar to the one already available on the Agila and Corsa, as well as an LPG version.

"With Opel Meriva’s full powertrain range, customers can choose from an array of diesel and gasoline engines that suit their needs – just as the variety of innovative features that optimizes the easy use of space makes the monocab the Flexibility Champion. Diesel engines are popular in the Meriva line-up and account for some 37 percent of sales, because the cost of tanking up is low," Opel mentioned in a press release.
