Opel is set to rock the world of hot hatches at the Geneva Motor Show, with the carmaker scheduled to introduce the Astra OPC EXTREME at the Swiss event.
Opel explains that the development used the Astra OPC Cup racer as technical inspiration. It all starts with a serious diet that sees the hatchback lose 100 kg (220 lbs). The main ingredient here is carbon fiber, which was used for the hood, fenders, roof and wheels. The rims are particularly impressive, being 20 kg lighter compared to aluminum ones. As for the roof, the important aspect here is that this is an in-house built part.

What’s more, they used the wonder material for the rear wing, diffuser, front apron, , suspension cross-bracing, t engine cover, as well as the rear wheelhouse ventilation.

In the power department, we see the Astra OPC’s turbocharged four-cylinder 2-liter unit gaining more than 20 HP, for an overall output that exceeds 300 HP. We have matching stopping power coming from a Brembo brakes kit that features 370 mm rotors for the front axle.

As for the grip, Opel explains that the Astra OPC EXTREME sports Hankook Ultra high-performance 245/35 R19 tires, which were specifically developed for it.

Climbing aboard, we find the rear seats are missing, having been replaced by a roll cage. Up front, accommodation comes from a pair of nicely trimmed Recaro bucket seats, which features six-point safety belts coming from Schroth. Once again, we have to talk about carbon fiber. This time, the material is used to reinforce the steering wheel, which is covered in Suede.

This will be the quickest street-legal Astra in history, but Opel hasn’t released the performance figures yet. Nevertheless, we’ll use the standard Astra OPC as a reference point. we’ll remind you that this needs 6 seconds flat for the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) game, while its top speed sits at 250 km/h (155 mph).

Opel’s Astra OPC EXTREME is scheduled to enter production, albeit in a limited volume, after its public debut in Geneva.

“With the new Astra OPC EXTREME we show the pure joy of driving! This study is quite simply spectacular and driving enthusiasts will appreciate its looks, which are head-turning without grandstanding. Its interior is superb and typically Opel – exciting, precise and quality-made in Germany. The EXTREME is the new top-of-the-line model in our Astra family with all the attributes of a super sporty car,” Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann said.
