2015 Honda Civic Type R Looks Devilish in First Teaser Photo

I still remember the day I first saw a 2001 Honda Civic Type R, that little Japanese box that captured my imagination and made me fall in love with hot hatches. I was too young to know about the Integra, so from that day on the Civic R came the cult car of the Honda brand in my mind.

The generation that followed wasn't a disappointment from a design point of view, in fact it was a revolution. But in its pursuit of the American market and VTEC technology, the Japanese automaker seeming stood still. There was no significant increase in power anywhere in the engine range for the hatchback and especially not the Type R. "Oh look, the Golf GTI has a turbo," I thought and my luvafair with the Civic Type R forever ended.

For more than a year now, Honda has been working on a brand new Civic Type R and is finally ready to show it. This is the very first sketch of the car that will be presented early next month during the Geneva Motor Show.

Wow, what a thing!

Honda calls it a concept, but I've looked long enough at their concepts to know they are 99% ready for production. With a bright red color and huge wings shooting out the back, this thing looks like a monster, it looks like Diablo. I pray to the gods of VTEC that this is what next year's production car will look like.

Powering the new Civic Type R will be a 2-liter turbo engine. We believe that Honda will reveal new details about the powertrain in the car, clarifying rumors about possible rear wheel steering and the exact output of the car.

Below, you will find our very own spy video of the 2015 Civic Type R, under development at the Nurburgring last year. The devil is in the detail!
