The world didn't know, but the goat was already approaching its end in 1970. The yearly sales fell dramatically this year to only 10,532 units, with the hardtop accounting for 9,497 units. The convertible was much rarer, with 661 units.
It was the last year for the convertible, but also the Judge. Only 357 hardtops and 17 convertibles received the Judge treatment in 1971.

The 1971 GTO in these photos is one of the last convertibles ever made, coming in great shape and exhibiting a color you don't often see.

While I hate to comment on what the eyes can see – the seller has done a tremendous job in capturing all the essential bits in their shared photos, the GTO looks impressive for its age. If you wonder how this is possible, it all comes down to a previous restoration in the early 2000s. The car returned to tip-top shape about two decades ago, as they planned to use the GTO for car shows.

It comes with the Ram Air hood, AM/FM radio, a custom sport wheel, air conditioning in working shape, and the correct 4-speed transmission (non-original, I think). The interior is also original but shows its age.

The Castillian Bronze looks good, and despite a few small occasional scratches, it's hard to find something to complain about. The rust isn't a problem on this goat, and the undersides, highlighted in the photos, seem spotless. Hats off not only to the restorer who brought this GTO back to a mint condition two decades ago but also to the next owners who beautifully preserved this shape.

The engine under the hood is the L78 400 V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and rated at 300 horsepower. Given the car's shape, it shouldn't be a surprise that the mill starts, runs, and drives beautifully – remember, this is a show car, so the working engine is a must-have.

Otherwise, this Pontiac GTO requires only minor TLC in the cabin and on the body, so it's ready for a heated garage to continue catching everybody's attention at car events. Seller ricksgoats says that "everything has been rebuilt or new since restoration," so your only mission is to take care of the subtle details to make it a perfect 10 again.

The car sells with PHS documentation and more papers confirming its options.

The bidding is underway, but unsurprisingly, the owner has also enabled a reserve. The good news is that the bidding is getting very close to the reserve's value, so with a little luck, this GTO will find a new home in a few days. The top offer is $48,600, but anyone who wants to get the convertible without a fight can trigger the Buy It Now option and pay $58,000 for the car.
