Nissan to Build Saloon and MPV on Micra Platform

The contemporary automotive industry is seeing the concept of platform sharing gain more and more importance, as the number of vehicles that rely on it is constantly growing.

The carmakers are planing to take full advantage of their platforms, therefore giving birth to a multitude of models that share the same (or modified) underpinnings.

The latest example that comes to demonstrate this is offered by Nissan. The Japanese automotive producer will use the new Micra platform to also give birth to a compact saloon and an MPV, as autocar reports.

The aforementioned platform uses the “V” name, which stands for versatility and can serve as a base for a multitude of body types. Nissan forecasts that the platform will eventually be used to build a million vehicles per year.

The first new model to be developed on it is the compact saloon, which will arrive sometime next year. The vehicle has been designed for the Asian market, but could also be offered in Europe. However, it is unclear if the car will make it to the old continent, as the European markets are known to be keen on hatchbacks rather than sedans, when talking about a vehicle of this size.

One year later, Nissan will introduce the aforementioned MPV. This will probable replace the Note model and will be offered in both Japan and Europe. The V platform comes with an advanced space efficiency, which means that the next Note could offer the same interior space as the current generation of the car, while being more compact.
