Chief operating officer Carlos Tavares told autocar that the current Laguna was affected by the unspectacular design of the hatchback, which he thinks made buyers overlook what is, essentially a good car.

He explained that the believes the aforementioned issue also affected the sales of the coupe and estate.

“We need to continue to work on appeal. If you look at the new cars — Zoe, Captur and Clio — you understand what I mean. It is about having character without being strange,” the COO said.

We expect Renault to give us the new Laguna in 2015. When we drove the current Laguna Coupe, we found a very nice blend of practicality and emotions, so we have high expectations for the next generation.
