Since Nissan’s design boss hinted to Jay Leno about something special to celebrate the original Z car, we expected the replacement for the 370Z would come next year as a concept car at least. But that might have been too ambitious, since Nissan’s Vice President Andy Palmer has told Autoexpress that the replacement will arrive in 2016.
When it does, it will be smaller, lighter and more efficient. We also expect it to be cheaper to allow more people to enjoy Nissan sportscar, which is good for the brand.
The new model will be arriving with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine, a first since the days of the 240Z. However, Palmer says V6 enthusiasts shouldn’t be worried, since a V6 version is still very much a possibility.
So what sort of engine will be used by the downsized Nissan. Well, both the Nissan Juke and Renault Clio use a 1.6-liter turbo, while the Renault Megane RS offers a 265 PS 2.0-liter turbo. It’s not hard to believe to believe the 2.0-liter can be tuned to 300 horsepower.
