Chrysler has seen great success with its Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, which has won it numerous awards. Models like the Jeep Wrangler or Chrysler 300 just wouldn’t be the same without it. But while its output would be great for a compact model, economy is key in this market so smaller engines are always going to be needed.
That’s why it seems Chrysler Group is working on a smaller V6. According to Automotive News, this will be a 3.2-liter and will debut on the next Jeep Liberty.
The 2014 Liberty will debut next year, most likely at the Detroit Auto Show if it’s not delayed. This will use the same platform as the new Dodge Dart, which will also be shared with models like the next Jeep Compass or Chrysler 200. So presumably all these cars could take the new Pentastar. The Dodge Dart would be interesting with a V6, but since the top-of-the-line sport model will have a 1.8L turbo with 300 hp, a big V6 is unlikely.
