According to a report from Motor Trend the day of Ferrari brand dilution is upon us, as starting with the next generation model, Maranello is switching to turbocharged engines.
The report suggests the move will come in 2016 and is being forced upon them by more stringent emissions and fuel consumption regulations.
Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the McLaren MP4-12C has built a strong reputation for superior acceleration due to its superior torque.
Ferrari is already involved in turbo engine development, as they've developed the 3-liter V6 and 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbos for Maserati. In addition, a prototype based on the California was spotted testing the twin-turbo V8 in April. The California shares its engine block with the 458, so if a twin-turbo fits into it, there should be no problem force-inducing the next mid-engined supercars.
