Folks, for years, the Dutch Star has been one of the most sought-after of Newmar Corp's year-round living motorhomes. Well, the 2024 version is now here, and it's time to dive deeper into this over-half-a-million-dollar machine!
$564,340 (€512K at current exchange rates) is the exact starting price for the least expensive of the 2024 Dutch Star floorplans. In short, this one is for those folks that really know how to commit to an RV, motorhome, or traveling habitat. Don't worry; Newmar Corp is committed too, committed to ensuring that your home feels like it's worth every penny of the price you paid, and to do that, it takes love, attention, and a level of craftsmanship that makes me look at my landlocked home with slight disapproval; you'll understand why shortly.

Now, the name Newmar is not new in this industry. Heck, they've been an active brand since 1968; I'm sure the images in the gallery will prove the level of their handiwork, and all of it is wrapped up in the 2024 Dutch Star. Do take note, however, that the Dutch Star is a diesel motor coach and is built upon a Freightliner chassis as standard, but an option for a Spartan chassis is in the mix too. Just be sure to bring your checkbook.

Here's where things start to get really difficult. Overall, Newmar places ten Dutch Star floorplans at your disposal, two of which have never been seen before and are new for 2024. the two plans are the 3836 and 3817, so we can pick on those to create a picture of a life lived out of one of these behemoths.

First and foremost, take a good long look at the images in the gallery if you haven't done so already. Now, you may not realize it, but these babies are huge, up to 43 ft (13 m) in length, and in that space, hide everything you need to live it up like Elvis while traveling across the US. But, I'm going to skip over things like AC, heating, water heaters, and all that, and just jump right into the creature comforts you can expect.

Let's begin with the fact that the coach you see driving down the road will not look like the coach you live out of once you've reached your destination. That's because these puppies are equipped with multiple slide-outs, and because of this, they blow up into massive spaces. Heck, the 3836 features nearly an entire wall on a slide-out. It houses the bedroom dresser and entertainment system, fridge and pantry for the galley, and a dinette and modular sofa too. Also, in the 3836, the king bed is on a slide-out, and so is the kitchen and another sofa in the living room.

Now, these homes on wheels are big; I can't stress that enough! Because of this, you probably won't be traveling alone, but rather as a group. After all, most models can accommodate six guests with ease. This also means that some peace and quiet may be hard to come by; it all depends on the "house" rules you make up.

Once you've made it to your destination, wherever that may be, you'll whip out those slide-outs and unleash your idea of outdoor living. Since these units are filled with nooks and crannies where you can stuff countless pounds of gear, you'll be able to transform the space around a Dutch Star into a full-blown campsite.

But this is a half-million-dollar motorhome, so outdoor living may be beneath you. After all, it would be a shame not to take full advantage of those extravagant interiors; let the kids play outside. With that said, I want you to picture yourself going about your day in a Dutch Star.

You'll probably wake up whenever you feel like it, considering you have a king bed to roll around in, and after you do, you'll head to the en-suite bathroom the 3836 presents, freshen up, and even throw some clothes in the washing machine. From here, you head toward the front of the unit, grabbing a drink of OJ from the fridge on your way to the living room. To your right, you see your significant other whipping up some food, and you just can't help but stick a palm to his or her gluteus maximus. You both laugh, and a kiss on the cheek follows.

You may now be finding yourself sitting around at the dinette, maybe opening the laptop for a peak at the day's work, or back into a lateral position on the couch. Personally, I'd poke my head out of the Dutch Star, grab a lungful of cool and clean forest, beach, or mountain air, and keep sipping my OJ as I watch the rising sun of a new day. I'd have a bike rack mounted to the rear of this thing, so my next step would be to read the e-bikes, but maybe you just want to sit in the shade of your awnings.

Look, I could sit here and paint a picture of what your life may be like in one of these babies, but to really find out, head to a local dealership, walk into a unit, have a seat, mess around with the drawers, pretend you have some clothes to wash, maybe even lay on the bed. Treat it like one of those try-it-before-you-buy-it moments. Have a look at the video below too. I wonder what the sales commission is on a fully decked-out unit?
