Based on elementary arithmetics, the new Mazda MX-5 in its most basic configuration would tip the scale at around 2,260 pounds (1,025 kilograms), but a recent report from Motoring suggests that the official curb weight sits at 2,248 pounds (1,020 kilograms). That difference is roughly the weight of a fat cat, so we weren't too far off the official figure, that is if the aforementioned source isn't bluffing.
Furthermore, the Australian publication suggests a 1.5-liter SKYACTIV gasoline-fed four-cylinder mill with 128 horsepower on tap will be offered as the entry-level engine. On the other end of the scale, voices hint that the other engine in the lineup will be a 2-liter SKYACTIV mill. On the Mazda 6, that motor produces 165 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque, 5 ponies more than the NC's 160 horsepower 2L mill.
The 2014 Paris Motor Show in October is certain to unveil more official data on the all-new Mazda MX-5.
