After the grand unveiling at the VW Group Media Night a few days ago, the Lamborghini Urus SE, a plug-in hybrid version of the Italian brand's super crossover, is now on display at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show in China.
The latest addition to the company's electrified vehicle lineup dwarfs the regular ICE-powered versions, namely the S and Performante, in terms of power. It packs a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that was reengineered, producing 611 hp (620 ps/456 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.
Housed inside the eight-speed auto 'box is an electric motor that assists the eight-banger, generating 189 hp (192 ps/141 kW). Lamborghini says the total output is 789 hp (800 ps/588 kW), and it has 701 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque. The Urus SE accelerates to 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.4 seconds, one-tenth slower than the Performante, and has a top speed of 194 mph (312 kph).
Its all-quiet range is nothing to write home about when comparing it to other crossovers. However, it is rather impressive for what is still a high-performance crossover that can outrun some fast previous-generation supercars in a straight line. With the 25.9 kWh battery pack fully charged, the Urus SE can travel 37 miles (60 km) on electrons.
The team behind the Urus SE has also upgraded other aspects. It has a new virtual limit-slip differential at the rear for what the automaker calls "on-demand oversteer," an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch that can evenly distribute the thrust between the front and rear wheels, a few design tweaks on the outside, a larger infotainment system in the cabin, and others.
Besides the Urus SE, Lamborghini also has other models on display at the car event that takes place in the People's Republic as we speak. One is the Revuelto, a plug-in hybrid supercar that has succeeded the mighty Aventador. It still stays true to the naturally aspirated V12 recipe, yet no fewer than three electric motors assist the 6.5L lump.
According to the Sant'Agata Bolognese exotic car marque, the Revuelto has 1,001 hp (1,015 ps/747 kW) on tap combined, which makes it as powerful as the original Bugatti Veyron. It takes 2.5 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kph), less than seven seconds to hit 124 mph (200 kph), and has a 217 mph (350 kph) top speed. On top of that, its tiny 3.8 kWh battery pack also gives it a small electric range of a few miles.
Taking center stage in the Ad Personam room is the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica. The V10-powered machine has a Blu Grifo exterior finish, a special livery, a black strip running across its nose and roof, and a few other bits and bobs. Power comes from a 5.2L naturally aspirated engine that produces 631 hp (640 ps/471 kW) and 417 lb-ft (565 Nm) of torque, enabling naught to sixty-two mph in 3.2 seconds.
