Everybody thinks of comparing the new BMW Z4 to the Toyota Supra, since the two are based on the same platform. However, while the Japanese sports car has been missing for many years, the Z4 has a legacy to live up to.
A YouTuber by the name of Zimba Motoring decided to compare his E89 Z4 against the G29. The differences he reveals were quite surprising, plus it's always nice to see BMW design evolving.

The codename E89 should already tell you something: that the old model dates back to the E90 3 Series era, so it's basically two generations old. For a sports car, it's not that important, but it does show how far BMW's fabrication has come.

For the record, both these cars are powered by the sDrive20i engine, which is a 2-liter turbo. However, power has gone up from 184 to 197 HP. The E89 owner mentions that his fuel economy rating is better, but that's mainly due to the new measuring systems.. Of course, the real gap is between a classic 35i and the modern M40i, but we still have a soft spot for the bi-turbo 3-liter in the classic models.

When it comes to their dimensions, the new model immediately strikes you as being wider in the hips, but also a little taller. This brings the added benefit of increasing interior space. For the G29 generation, BMW opted for a conventional fabric roof rather than the folding hardtop that made the original so cool.

Also, while the interior is more modern now, some of the originality is missing, as all the buttons and switches are taken from other Bimmers. Still, with orange seats, you can hardly call the Z4 boring. Trunk space has also increased by about 50%, though it's still not exactly ample back there.
