If you were growing up in the 2000's, there were a few small, cheap cars that seemed like the dream of all us boy races. We are talking about things like the MINI Cooper, the Fiesta ST and especially the Citroen C2 VTS.
Out of all the tiny fast cars, it was the cheapest. After that, the enthusiasm for Citroens died down, especially after the bulky and unengaging C4 VTS. But now, the French car brand with double chevrons wants to make a comeback.

A few days ago, a brand new C3 supermini was introduced, and even though it looks like a small crossover, Citroen officials are quietly plotting a lowered, faster version.

The decision is nowhere near being made, and this rumor from Auto Express magazine could end up being a pile of steam. But nobody has talked about Citroen in such a year for a very long time.

Since the DS brand is now a separate entity, Citroen doesn't have anything with a decent punch. The possible C3 VTS model is supposed to tie together with the brand's return to the World Rally Championship in 2017. So we could see what they are cooking up quite soon.

Want a preview? So do we, but we've only got these photos of the C3 WRC prototype. It looks like the old Focus RS and probably has nothing to do with the production car.

As cool as it sounds, we know that the C3 VTS has a slim chance of happening. Citroen doesn't have the necessary engineers to make a competitive hot hatch, one which delivers not just speed but also fun. And let's not forget that the Peugeot 208 and 308 GTi models have received mixed reviews, having been criticized for their odd handling and strange seating positions.

Even if approved, the C3 hot hatch might not rock the boat. Remember, Citroen is supposed to be the "Dacia" of the French carmaking conglomerate, and the most powerful C3 offered has only 110 hp. Compare that to the Fiesta's maximum of 140 hp and the 150 hp SEAT Ibiza and you begin to see a pattern.
