Since Volkswagen is moving upmarket, the VW Group has unofficially invested Skoda as the new people’s car and now the Czech automaker is preparing to launch a new generation of one of its best-selling models, the Octavia.
Many things have been said about the upcoming 3rd generation of the Octavia, but not too many of the come from official sources. However, it seems that Skoda has let a preview image of the car slip during a recent presentation for the new Rapid model.
As you can see in the adjacent picture, there are clear signs of influence from the VisionD concept, which would bring a design revolution for the Octavia, a car that has relied on conservative styling cues for the first two generations. Of course, we can’t be sure that this is the 2013 Octavia, which is why we’ll have to wait and see.
Under the fresh body, we’ll get the VW Group’s new MQB platform, which will be adapted to make the Octavia a bit larger than the model it replaces. This is possible thanks to the fact that the company has launched the Rapid, a sedan that’s slotted between the Octavia and the Fabia.
