When it was founded in 1980, Mountune was specialized in providing race engines for the Mini. When Mountune started prepping Cosworth engines in the late 1980s, the Brentwood-based outfit fell in love with all things Ford.
Nowadays, the bread and butter of Mountune comes in the form of FoMoCo-approved performance upgrades. The newest of the lot are Phase 1 upgrades for the 2016 Ford Focus RS, which is the hot hatchback of the moment, full stop. You can check them all out in the online catalog. If you can’t be bothered with that, I will gladly talk you through the most important go-faster modifications from the list.

Thanks to early access to development mules, Mountune came up with an interesting selection of upgrades. High flow air filter ($59), 19-inch lightweight wheels from OZ Racing ($485 per piece), Michelin Sport Cup 2 rubber, a quick-shift arm ($199), better boost and induction hoses, roll restrictors ($159), you name it, Mountune has it all. My favorite upgrade, however, is the Quaife ATB differential.

Priced at $1,099, the helical limited-slip diff is said to improve cornering over the standard differential of the Focus RS. Compared to the open differential from Ford, the Quaife ATB relies on gears rather than clutch plates. As such, the Quaife ATB maximizes traction, minimizes wheel spin, and reduces torque steer.

On the visual front, Mountune offers goodies such as a yellow gear knob, floor mats, and Dynamic Side Splash sill stickers. A power upgrade isn’t available at the present moment for the 2016 Ford Focus RS, so these babies will have to do until the moment comes.

The British tuning specialist is so confident about the soon-to-debut MR power upgrade that Mountune had this to share with us: “Power and torque improvements are very noticeable, as is the reduction in 0 - 60 mph (96 km/h) time and other performance attributes.”

Two words: can’t wait!
