The Internet is loaded with videos showcasing the E60 BMW M5 hitting 300 kph (186 mph) without any added horsepower. And the soundtrack of its naturally aspirated V10 only comes as a bonus, reminding us of the Bavarian carmaker's Formula One adventures. Unlike its E39 predecessor, though, the E60's styling hasn't aged well, which is not exactly as a surprise, since this was penned while Chris Bangle led the carmaker's design efforts. So, can we do something about the look of the super-sedan?
Social media always has a positive answer to questions like these. In fact, you're looking at such an answer right now - the rendering that brought us here aims to update the said M5 by gifting it with visual elements that use BMW's current styling language.

We only have the rear view of the four-door rocket so far, but this is enough to make a point. However, we have to keep in mind that J.B.Cars, the pixel label behind this work, only played with the said details, while not changing the actual styling of the machine's body.

The first detail that catches the eye can be seen on the taillights, and we're not just talking about the graphics here. The very shape of the clusters having been changed - of course, this would require the boot lid edges to be redefined, which is a bit of a stretch.

Then we have the rear valance: the quadruple exhaust layout is still here, but it comes in black, thus matching the diffuser.

In fact, the said color is also used for the roof (this trick is supposed to lower the perceived height of the vehicle), the boot lid lip spoiler, the more modern mirrors, the side skirt ornament, as well as the new air intakes found on the front wings.

Last, but certainly not least, the wheel design is fresh, while those thin spokes allow us to throw a glance at the carbon-ceramic stopping hardware.

All in all, these changes can only do so much to sharpen up the look of the E60 M5. Meanwhile, in the real world, we should see the facelifted incarnation of the current F90 M5 this summer, while the M5 and the M5 Competition will be joined by the CS derivative, which promises to offer an even more immersive driving experience.

PS: Here's a similar Photoshop stunt that involves the E63 BMW M6.
