Mitsuoka Viewt Haru Special Edition Has Classic Looks On a Budget

Have you ever wanted a brand new Jaguar Mark 2 from the early 60s but a bit smaller and easier to park. That's not really a problem if you live in Japan, since a company called Mitsuoka makes a Jag that's not the size of England, but the size of Okinawa.

This is it. It's called the Viewt and it's been in production ever since 1993, a retro-style automobile with the underbelly of Nissan Micra. The Viewt shares its little engines with the Nissan supermini and its humble levels of power are sent to the front via a CVT.

After so many years of… humble service, the Viewt is being rewarded with a special edition called the Viewt Haru. Ferrari special editions are built in the hundreds, but this one will only have 15 pretty little ones.

Three natural colors have been specifically chosen, with 5 of each planned. "Erb" models will be green like the grass, "Ciel" Viewts will be as blue as the sky and "Tere"ones will be brown. Pastel tones and classic lines work well together, so we give the Japanese retro fake our seal of approval, not before telling you the price.

All models come with a 1.2-liter DOHC three-cylinder engine and a CVT. With 2WD, that will set you back 2,851,200 yen. Converted into the euro, that's about €20,000, which sounds unreasonable. But you've got to remember most cars in Japan start at 2 million yen, even the really small ones.
