Porsche is a sort of conundrum for many automotive enthusiasts. It is not afraid to break conventions – like that one time when it started producing a high-performance luxury crossover SUV, and everyone cried their outrage. But in other things, it's more traditional than many of its rivals.
For example, while it makes two crossover SUVs and an all-electric model that's twinned with the ICE-powered Panamera saloon, it also doesn't want to alienate the faithful 911 fans. So, they are making all design changes more subtle than anyone likes them, and they are also running away from hybrid, PHEV, or EV power as if a monster lurks inside the charging outlet.

As such, nobody is surprised when they say that 911s will be ICE-powered for as long as they can keep them burning dead dinosaurs. On the other hand, they already have sustainable powertrains in models like the Panamera or Taycan, so it wouldn't be that hard to adapt them for the iconic 911 series. Of course, the discussion is muted when the company blames its reluctance to plug in the 911 because of performance-affecting weight concerns.

On the other hand, the facelift for the 992 series is coming as our spy photographer partners keep uncovering prototypes all around the world. Maybe the next generation will feature a complete paradigm switch; who knows? In fact, if that is not going to happen in the real world, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is always ready and willing to take over the OEM's duties.

Just recently, we stumbled upon Luca Serafini, a virtual automotive designer based in Modena, Italy (aka lsdesignsrl on social media), who has imagined the EV future for the next-gen 911 in a cleverly minimalist way. His unofficial design project honors the timeless style of the most well-known Porsche but also adapts it for the era when sustainability meets tradition and innovation in a single, comprehensive package.

While the hypothetical next-generation Porsche 911 EV keeps the well-known proportions, it's also a product of the next iteration of designs, as per the LED front and rear light treatment. In fact, if we dare to throw in a supposition, maybe this unofficial concept also comes with pop-up headlights. Anyway, the philosophy behind the entire project is simple – minimalist design blends nicely with classic proportions, and under the rear hood, there's either one or a couple of electric motors to provide RWD or AWD oomph.

By the way, if Porsche were to bring the zero-emissions powertrains over from the upcoming Mavan EV, for example, along with the modular Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture developed jointly with Audi, it would also churn out around 600 horsepower – more than enough to satisfy purists, don't you think? So, do you want the next Porsche 911 to be electric or remain an ICE-powered affair?
