The Porsche brand already has a pretty decent EV in its stable, the Tesla Model S-fighting Taycan sedan, but now it wants to attack the world's best-selling nameplate - Model Y, with the all-new second-generation Macan EV crossover SUV.
In a pretty horrifying turn of events, at least for fans of ICE-powered vehicles, we found out recently that Elon Musk's predictions about world domination turned out to be true – at least in the case of the Tesla Model Y crossover SUV, which, according to the US carmaker is now selling above the rates of Toyota's Corolla. So, are we surprised that everyone and their mother is trying to snatch its crown?

Porsche already has experience battling Tesla products because its Taycan is taking direct jabs at Tesla's Model S, and we may even see a flagship version coming out soon to brawl with the Model S Plaid. Anyway, after long waits and numerous delays, because VW Ag has numerous problems with EV software in particular, just like GM for example, the German sports car and CUV maker is just about ready to present to the world the second-generation Macan – now exclusively offered with EV powertrains.

The teaser campaign has intensified lately after first revealing the new model's interior, as per tradition. A few days ago, we also saw the Porsche team putting the new Macan EV through its paces "in the name of performance and efficiency." Interestingly, the pre-production prototypes were almost barren of camouflage, and a decade after its launch, the new Macan is about to be revealed – on January 25, according to the company's latest teaser.

Plastered all over the brand's international website instead of social media, there's a single photo depicting part of the LED taillights with a caption showing the reveal date and the tag 'electrify now.' Following them gets you to the Porsche Newsroom, where the company tells the story of the Macan EV's grueling test program – just in case anyone doubts whether the electrify tag refers to the Macan EV or not.

Anyway, Porsche promises an entirely new EV architecture – Premium Platform Electric (PPE) – layered beneath a familiar exterior design and modern cockpit styling. We already know some juicy details about the all-new compact crossover SUV – it has a Cd value of 0.25, and that makes it particularly efficient. More importantly, Porsche promises WLTP range values of at least 500 km (311 miles) for all model versions, as the battery's gross capacity is 100 kWh (95 kWh net).

Additionally, the 800-volt architecture will ensure some pretty quick top-ups with energy, at up to 270 kW, and even 400-volt charging stations only need around 22 minutes to get the battery level from 10 to 80% SoC because the Macan EV has another trick up its sleeve and splits the 800-volt battery into two 400-volt elements. Meanwhile, AC charging is not as impressive – only 11 kW.

Last but not least, we also know that at least one variant of the all-new second-generation 2025 Porsche Macan EV will feature dual motors front and rear for electric all-wheel drive, and the overboost function will deliver a total output of more than 450 kW (603 hp) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) when using Launch Control. The new Macan will also boast rear-axle steering (up to 5 degrees) for the first time.
