Worry not MINI fans, the company has not given up on build quality and craftsmanship. But after the company started making cars in neighboring Malaysia, the Countryman will also be locally assembled in Thailand from complete knocked down kits, local sources report.
The Countryman crossover was the most obvious choice for local assembly, as it represented half of MINI's 500 sales in 2012.

Three models will be put together from kits sent over from Graz, Austria to their small factory in Rayong. The basic 122 hp Cooper, the 112 hp Cooer D and the 143 Cooper SD will all be available, but only the top model will be available with ALL4, unlike in Europe where all three have it as an option.

No pricing information is available at the moment, but a report from paultan.org suggests a drop of about 15 to 20%.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
