MINI Cooper S ECU Upgraded by Superchips UK

With its 175 HP and well-known go-kart maneuverability the MINI Cooper S packs a pretty strong punch when it leaves the factory. But there’s always room for more, and UK electronics tuner Superchips demonstrates this by offering an ECU upgrade for the car.

The Cooper S version of the MINI is powered by a twin scroll turbocharged direct injection 1.6 liter engine, developed by BMW in cooperation with PSA Peugeot-Citroen Alliance. In its stock form this uses a MED17 engine system management to deliver 175 HP and 240 Nm of torque.

Superchips have played with the engine’s mind, enabling it to produce 195 HP and 282 Nm. The engine is also highly flexible, as 250 of its Nm are available from 2500 rpm to 5250 rpm. To do this, the tuner have optimized the ignition timing, fueling and the turbo boost parameters of the unit.

The Superchiped incarnation of the MINI Cooper S is already available for order in 100 of the tuner’s UK dealerships. You can enjoy the extra grunt for 445 pounds, VAT included.

More (but not too much) power on a Cooper S can only be a good thing as today's hot hatches are getting more and more beefier under the bonnet. After all, the precise handling asset of the MINI is excellent but why choose to be left in other performance hatches' trail in a straight line when you can fight back without having to put too much effort into this?
