Rumors about Mercedes-Benz considering a supermini for 2018 have been around for more than a month now and the latest German media report adds more to the X-Class saga.
Besides looking to slot a new vehicle under the A-Class, Mercedes-Benz also wants to bring a small SUV to the market, as well as a “four meter van” and a three-door competitor to BMW’s MINI. This intriguing piece of information comes from German website Focus, who also claims the new cars should be underpinned by the company’s new MFA platform.
Adding to the report, our source notes that the new “baby” GLA SUV and the “four meter van” (to be fitted under the B-Class model) will arrive in 2015, while the MINI competitor is set to be unveiled in 2016. According to Focus, all three models will wear price tags between €17,000 and €20,000.
A month ago, another German newspaper said Mercedes-Benz’s future X-Class, which will be powered by either a 1.0-liter gasoline or a 1.5-liter diesel engine, could be offered for around €20,000.
