The long awaited B-Class hatchback from Mercedes has finally reached American shore, being unveiled at the New York Auto Show this week.
However, the only model available for the American market will be a zero-emission version, named the B-Class Electric Drive. It will be powered by an electric motor generating more than 100 kW (134 hp) and 310 Nm (228 lb-ft) of torque and according to Mercedes’ press release, it will do the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in “considerably less than 10 seconds” reaching a top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph).
Powering the motor, is a lithium-ion battery placed in the vehicle’s underfloor to help save space and make the vehicle safer in an impact. It can be charged at any household socket for less than 2 hours for a range of 96 km (60 miles).
The Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive is not offering only zero emissions, but luxury and practicality too, being almost identical with the conventional powered B-Class.
The EV hatchback will hit dealerships in US in early 2014 and later it will become available in Europe as well.
