In a world where long-haul cargo vans are in higher demand than ever, Mercedes-Benze's iconic Sprinter line is here to prove it can still hang in the era of EVs. Per a press release given by Mercedes-Benz, the all-new eSprinter is due to hit showroom floors in North America very soon. When it does, it'll be here to prove it's the most versatile all-electric cargo van on the continent. We're looking at you, Ford E-Transit.
All-new for 2024, the eSprinter takes an iconic form factor famous for its clever use of space and general dependability and introduces a battery EV drivetrain suitable enough to bring the Sprinter name into the future. With a 170-inch wheelbase and a 113 kWh battery available at launch, Mercedes-Benz reckons you could squeeze around 273 miles of driving range out of a single charge. Subsequent extended-range battery packs coming soon are set to improve on this range figure even further, potentially making the eSprinter suitable both for intra-city running around as well as longer delivery runs.

With cargo space estimates of up to 488 cubic feet and a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight of 9,370 lbs, there's enough space and hauling capacity latent within the eSprinter to satisfy delivery drivers who've been driving gas and diesel fans for decades. With a clever modular solution to space management designed in-house by Mercedes-Benz Vans, the eSprinter is more than capable of accepting an eclectic set of cargo from cardboard boxes to landscaping equipment and just about anything else you could think of.

This new modular platform solution for interior space is divided into three modules. The first front module of the van contains the vehicle's high-voltage equipment underneath the floor, the middle module houses the battery pack, while the rear module houses two electric motors powering this rear-wheel-drive EV powertrain. The permanent synchronous motor electric drivetrain in question weighs just 286 lbs and delivers torque figures of up to 295 lb-ft in intervals of up to 30 seconds. It's not exactly an F-150 Lightning in terms of performance, but it's well suited to the delivery drivers most likely to make use of an all-electric Sprinter.

With a similar suite of in-vehicle driver aids and creature comforts, as you'll find on the average Mercedes-Benz passenger car on offer, the full Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) is sure to make once mundane and eye-wateringly boring delivery journeys that little bit more comfortable. Not having to wait all that long to charge up, with a ten to 80 percent charge done in just 40 minutes, is another huge bonus as well. With a starting MSRP of $71,886 for the standard power output and $75,316 for a high output motor, those savings on gasoline every year will start coming in handy from day one.
