At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz pulled the wraps off the company’s new brand for electric mobility: the EQ. To mark the proper arrival into the world of the new nameplate, the Germans also presented their first vehicle, the Concept EQ.
This original three-pointed star electric car will spawn in the years to come a number electric cars. The first to be announced, and currently under development, are the EQC and EQA. By 2022, a total of ten electric cars are expected to be launched by Mercedes, ranging in size from the tiny smart to large SUVs.

All the models promise to bring state-of-the-art electric mobility to world markets. This means combining the cars themselves with all the required support infrastructure: wall boxes, charging services, apps and other related technologies.

As presented, the EQ concept car was powered by a battery that could, in theory, have an output of up to 300 kW thanks to scalable battery components. Two electric motors spind the wheel while the permanent all-wheel-drive helps the concept move forward for up to up to 500 kilometers (310 miles).

This week, Mercedes brought the original concept back into the spotlight with the release of several new photos that present the EQ in a new light, on the backdrop of a futuristically-style scene. The photos have been shot by photographer Richard Thompson III, known for his work with other ccarmaker the likes of Bentley, BMW or Lexus.

“For the past 15 years I have worked as an automotive photographer, and in that time have observed a deep thematic shift not only in my industry but more generally in what it means to create visual art,” Thompson says.

“Recently I have been creating work which is reactive to the emerging themes I have observed. Drawing on my personal interests and artistic experience outside of automotive photography, I’ve embarked on a journey to present future-forward surrealism in my work.”
