When it comes to making cars that are economical yet fun, few do it better than Japanese carmaker Mazda. While we're still waiting (hoping) for a great new pair of sportscars from them, they are doing their best to promote the new '6'.
Both in order to promote the car in Australia and to show a bit of involvement with the racing world, they're going to organise a small one-make racing series with 20 Mazda6 sedans being driven by various celebrities. This will be held just before the upcoming 2013 F1 Australian Grand Prix.
Of the 20 drivers, 9 have already been confirmed: Sir Chris Hoy MBE, Matthew Cowdrey OAM, Anna Meares OAM, Em Rusciano, Mark Beretta, Rachel Finch, Shane Delia, Chris Tarrant and Ruby Rose.
Honestly, we don't really know what makes these people are like on the track, but we hope they put on a good show.
"We couldn't be happier with the sporty design of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge cars," said Mazda Australia marketing manager, Alastair Doak. "Our plan was to come up with a race livery that complemented the Mazda6's KODO design and which made the cars stand out and I'm confident that we've achieved both. We're now very close to having our full roster of 20 confirmed celebrity drivers and with less than 50 days until the start of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, we're looking forward to going racing."
