Mazda has never been very excited when it comes to electric vehicles. At one point it even claimed – and backed the claim with some numbers, to be fair – that EVs could be more harmful in the long run that conventional powered cars. Yet for some reason, in late 2019 it caved and released the first Mazda-branded EV.
Maybe it was the need to meet emission regulations, maybe something else, but Mazda made the big leap forward and launched the MX-30, an SUV with a disappointing range. Now, as the worldwide lockdowns are being lifted, Mazda is ready to start producing the MX-30 for the world’s markets.

The first electric SUVs from Mazda should arrive on the roads this fall, and a tad later in the UK. Thanks to the Brits, we learned there would also be a First Edition available in the first year of production.

In the UK (pricing has not been announced for the rest of the world) this special edition will be priced at £27,495 and will come with several unique styling features.

On the outside, it sports several unique body colors, while on the inside light grey cloth and stone leatherette combined with orange seat stitching make up the palette. 8-way electric adjustable drivers’ seat, a 7-inch TFT dial display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also on the table.

As for powertrain, the First Edition is a front-wheel-drive powered by an electric motor good for 145 ps. The 35.5 kWh battery can hold enough electricity for a range of just 200 km (124 miles) combined, as measured under WLTP. The battery can be recharged to 80 percent in 40 minutes.

As a bonus, Mazda will throw in for First Edition customers a free wall box home charger.

“Our first all-electric Mazda heralds an exciting start to Mazda’s second century in business,”
Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson said in a statement.

“With the First Edition MX-30 order book now open, customers in the UK can reserve a car for just £800 for delivery early in 2021.”
