Mazda MX-5 GT Details and Photos

Don't call it a green Miata with an attitude, 'cause the next thing you will hear will be the roar of a modified Mazda engine as it passes by and curses you with all its 275 bhp. And besides, that's not even its official name: the lady is called MX-5 GT.

Built, or should we say tweaked, and painted green by Jota Sport, the MX-5 GT is to take on the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship 2011 with a whole lot of confidence, considering its dimensions.

At 850 kg, the model will fight on tracks around Britain much bigger names, not to mention models: Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus, and BMW. The guys that will run the racing program with this baby, Jota Sport, are confident that the figures that make up the performances of the car are enough to cause at least one of those big names fear it: 0 to 60 mph in three seconds and a top speed of 160mph.

Small and hopeful as it is, the MX-5 GT is, at least on paper, as ready for the races ahead as any of its other competitors. The body of the models has been engineered to be 17 times stronger than required by the FIA, while the six speed sequential paddle shift gearbox to hold the entire troop at bay and only call the horses when needed.

The MX-5 GT is also equipped with a roll cage, race seats and harness, external electric cut-off and fire extinguisher, safety catches on the bonnet and boot lids, competition steering wheel and alloy wheels, while the running gear, rear axle, gearbox and engine have been modified to enhance performance. And you'll get to see it all starting this weekend at Silverstone...
