The things one does for family: one man from Ohio bought 6 plane tickets and flew around the country for 2 days straight so he could spend Christmas with his flight attendant daughter.
Pierce Vaughan is a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, and her dad, Hal Vaughan, knew she’d be working both on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day. To make sure she wouldn’t get too lonely without any family member close by, he bought 6 plane tickets and flew across the U.S. for 2 days straight, just so he could be with her in the sky.
The story went viral after one of the passengers, Mike Levy, posted about it on Facebook.
“Hal decided he would spend the holiday with her. So, he is flying on each of her flights today and tomorrow around the country to spend time with his daughter for Christmas. What a fantastic father! Wish you both a very Merry Christmas!” Levy wrote in a post that’s been shared over 35,000 times.
It was later confirmed by Pierce herself, who revealed that the reunion in the sky had been a success, even though her father had serious trouble catching some of his flights. He was eventually able to thanks to the nice gate agents and to the Delta crew, all of whom proved very accommodating, she continued to say, thanking them.
The entire thing was planned in advance, as Pierce’s own Facebook post available at the bottom of the page confirms. Still, it was surprising that Hal was able to pull it off. Though it was a challenging and no doubt a tiresome experience, it was also an amazing one.
In a statement to NBC Chicago, Delta Airlines praised both father and daughter for their decision to spend time together during the holiday – and the hard work they put in to make it happen.
“We appreciate all of our employees for working during the holidays to serve Delta customers, and love seeing this awesome Dad having the chance to spend Christmas with his daughter – even while crisscrossing the country at 30,000 feet,” the airline company says.
